On Saturday, December 5, 2020, Imhotep’s Legacy Academy held its third annual STEM Quiz Tournament event. This is the first year the event was delivered virtually through the Microsoft Teams platform.
Thirteen teams composed of elementary, junior high, and high school students from across the province gathered to test their STEM knowledge and engage in a friendly competition for prizes and the title of STEM Quiz Champions.
ILA used the Kahoot! platform as a repository for STEM-related questions (e.g., straight answer, multiple-choice, true or false, fill-in-the-blank). Student participants logged-in to Kahoot! to answer questions posed by the Quizmaster: ILA Executive Director, Mr. Sidney Idemudia. Prior to the event, students were provided with a STEM Quiz Study Guide from which to study topics covered during the STEM Quiz Tournament.
Gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded to the top three teams with the highest combined average scores, and each member of the 1st place team was given a 10.2″ silver 32GB Apple iPad (with Wi-Fi) in recognition of their accomplishment. New this year, ILA also awarded a similar Apple iPad to a Tournament MVP (Most Valuable Player)–the student participant with the highest individual Kahoot! score. T-shirts and certificates were distributed to all participants and coaches. The winning team was the Science Innovators, 2nd place went to team Ihsan Academy, and 3rd place went to team Black Dragons.
This year’s event was sponsored in part by the Office of African Nova Scotian Affairs (ANSA) and Dalhousie University. (View the 2020 STEM Quiz Tournament poster [PDF 1.2MB].)
